Overview
Investo — Simplifying Personal Investing for Everyday Users
Industry: Fintech
Platform: Mobile App (iOS & Android)
Role: Lead Product Designer
Summary
Investo is a mobile investment platform designed to help everyday users confidently manage and grow their finances. As the Lead Product Designer, I led the end-to-end design process, focusing on simplifying complex investment flows while aligning the product with business growth goals.
2. Problem
Many first-time and intermediate investors struggle with:
Overly complex investment dashboards
Unclear onboarding flows
Low confidence when making financial decisions
From a business perspective, this resulted in:
Poor onboarding completion
Low user activation
Reduced long-term retention
Goal:
Design an intuitive investment experience that builds user confidence, improves onboarding completion, and increases engagement without overwhelming users.
3. My Role & Responsibilities
As the Lead Product Designer, I was responsible for:
Defining the product UX strategy
Conducting user research and competitive analysis
Designing user flows, wireframes, and high-fidelity UI
Prototyping key interactions using Figma & ProtoPie
Collaborating with stakeholders to align UX decisions with business objectives
4. Research & Insights (keep this tight)
Research Methods
Competitive analysis of popular investment apps
Review of user feedback and usability pain points
UX audits of existing investment flows
Key Insights
Users needed guidance, not more features
Financial jargon increased hesitation and drop-off
Clear progress indicators improved user confidence during onboarding
These insights guided a clarity-first UX approach.
5. Key Design Decisions
1. Simplified Onboarding Flow
Reduced cognitive load by breaking onboarding into clear, step-by-step actions
Introduced progressive disclosure to avoid overwhelming users
Why it mattered:
Improved onboarding clarity directly supports higher activation and trust.
2. Intuitive Investment Dashboard
Prioritized essential metrics (portfolio value, performance, next action)
Reduced visual noise and unnecessary data density
Why it mattered:
Users could quickly understand their financial position without needing prior investment knowledge.
3. Clear Visual Hierarchy & Feedback
Used consistent color coding and micro-feedback for gains, losses, and actions
Designed interaction states to reassure users before committing to investments
Why it mattered:
Trust and confidence are critical in Fintech products.
6. Outcome & Impact
As a result of the redesigned experience:
User engagement increased by ~50%
Customer retention improved by ~30%
Users reported higher confidence when making investment decisions
(Metrics based on internal tracking and post-design evaluation.)
7. Reflection
This project reinforced the importance of:
Designing for user confidence, not just functionality
Balancing business goals with user clarity in Fintech products
Using UX decisions to reduce fear and hesitation in high-stakes environments
If I were to iterate further, I would explore deeper personalization and behavioral nudges to support long-term investing habits.
